
A missing 27-year-old male hiker was found deceased near the Third Flatiron in Boulder County, a rugged area known for its challenging terrain. The Boulder County Sheriff's Office searched after the man was reported overdue by his sister on December 18, he had been last known to scramble in the area, as detailed by the Boulder County Sheriff's Office. His vehicle was found at the Gregory Canyon trailhead, which subsequently became the nerve center for the ensuing search.
The search team, with aid from the Boulder Emergency Squad drones, managed to definitively locate the man's remains in a remote section of the Third Flatiron. The recovery operation, spearheaded by the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group's technical experts, was no small feat, taking an extensive 8.5 hours to meticulously carry out. This has been a stark reminder of the inherent risks associated with high-risk outdoor activities such as scrambling.
The identity of the individual is still under wraps, with the Boulder County Coroner's Office withholding it thus far. They are in the process of positive identification and preparing to inform the next of kin.
