To confront the harrowing reality of food insecurity, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is joining forces with Orange County Public Schools, striving to ensure that families remain fed during the school district's winter break, a time when many lack access to free or reduced-cost school meals. As reported by ClickOrlando, the initiative took shape at various locations, including Evans High School, where the community came together to distribute essential food supplies.

The charity's CEO, Derrick Chubbs, highlighted the troubling increase in need, noting a 90 percent uptick in website traffic from individuals seeking food assistance over the past three years. “That’s a daunting number in it of itself so nothing tells us this is going to diminish any time soon,” Chubbs stated, as per ClickOrlando. The determined efforts by the organization are aimed at cushioning the blow of hunger that intensifies, especially when school is out.

According to a simultaneous WESH report, the food bank's mission this holiday season reached an impressive scope with plans to nourish some 3,400 OCPS families. This concerted effort was not confined to a single venue but spanned nine strategic locations within Orange County.

"We want to be a part of the solution for them over the holidays, where they worry about something other than having food on the table. I’d rather have them worry about a present than worry about something as essential as a meal," Chubbs expressed in a statement detailedby WESH. Such statements illustrate the heartfelt priority of Second Harvest to alleviate hunger so families can direct their focus toward the festive spirit of the season.
