Chaos unfolded at a Lakewood PetSmart last night as shots were fired, prompting a police response and the arrest of two juveniles, according to local authorities. A neighboring Goodtimes employee, Brandon Wise, brought the incident to light, who reported, "I was taking orders in the drive-thru thru and then as I was handing the customer his food, he told me that he heard some shots," as KDVR reported. Wise recounted how he and others offered refuge to a PetSmart employee during the commotion at the retail location at 160 Wadsworth Blvd.
In a development later clarified by Agent Rob Osckel of the Lakewood Police Department, three individuals were taken into custody — an initial count of an adult and a juvenile and later including another juvenile. However, it was found that the adult was a victim in the ordeal that escalated from within the shop to the adjacent parking area, and no further shots were fired. Multiple handguns were subsequently recovered, as detailed by 9NEWS.
The Lakewood Police Department is actively reaching out to witnesses of the shooting who have yet to provide statements, as their input could prove crucial in the ongoing investigation. Agent Osckel encouraged those with information to contact LPD, as per 9NEWS.
