The Sonoma County community is reeling from a tragic incident this week, where Ranger Katranne "Kat" Pringle was killed in what authorities believe to be a murder-suicide involving a former colleague. In a post on their social media channel, Sonoma County Regional Parks announced the loss of the 38-year-old ranger, whom they described as a dedicated professional known for her passion and warmth. She "brought passion and warmth to everything she did," Sonoma County Regional Parks posted on Facebook. "Fearless yet compassionate and fun yet focused, Kat was well-liked by all and a role model for many." Pringle, who joined the parks as a park aide in 2017 and was promoted to ranger the following year, leaves behind a young son, family, friends, and co-workers.
The discovery of the bodies was made after Pringle failed to report to work, prompting officers to perform a welfare check. According to information obtained by Hoodline, the responding deputy found the house's front door closed but unlocked. Making entry after announcing their presence and receiving no response, the deputy encountered a harrowing scene. The Sonoma Sheriff's Office has to thoroughly investigate the matter despite the circumstances initially pointing toward a murder-suicide.
Pringle, who also served as an EMT and a P.O.S.T-certified defensive tactics instructor, worked in several parks throughout Sonoma County and was known for her enthusiastic approach to work and life.
