A Spring Hill woman has been taken into custody following an incident where she reportedly stabbed her boyfriend's dog multiple times. The arrest occurred on Sunday morning, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, with the suspect identified as 23-year-old Megan Lynn Mileskiewicz. WFLA reports that deputies were called to the scene at around 10:42 a.m. after witnesses observed the attack inside a residence on 180 Rusk Circle.
Following the altercation, witnesses say that Mileskiewicz fled from the home through the backdoor. Law enforcement officials later located her hiding face down among shrubbery behind a tool shed in the backyard, as detailed by WTSP. Despite being given verbal commands, Mileskiewicz did not comply, resulting in deputies physically removing her from her hiding spot for the arrest.
The dog in question, a 2-year-old pit bull, sustained two lacerations each approximately 2 to 3 inches long, although the injuries were reported as not life-threatening; they were, however, actively bleeding. "Deputies quickly located Mileskiewicz hiding behind a tool shed in the backyard, face down on the ground surrounded by shrubbery," stated the Hernando County Sheriff's Office. Information obtained by WTSP indicates that a witness dialed 911 immediately upon witnessing the stabbing.
Post-Miranda, Mileskiewicz has been quoted saying the dog was "bothering" her, prompting her to become upset and to "made a mistake," according to Tampa Free Press. She now faces charges of animal cruelty and resisting an officer without violence. Mileskiewicz was booked into the Hernando County Detention Center, where her bond was set at $3,500. The injured pit bull is expected to make a full recovery based on statements from officials provided to the media.
