Residents in St. Johns County have been presented with the latest updates on the First Coast Expressway project, a thoroughfare aimed at enhancing traffic connectivity in Northern St. Johns County. An open house, held yesterday at the Renaissance World Golf Village, provided details of the construction plans and the opportunity for community members to learn more, both in person and virtually. According to Flagler News Weekly, the meeting was scheduled from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and offered detailed insights into the project's commencement.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has begun work on the First Coast Expressway from east of County Road 16A to east of County Road 2209 (St. Johns Parkway), as reported by News4Jax. The project includes the creation of a four-lane toll road to eventually connect I-10 to I-95 and the construction of a new interchange over St. Johns Parkway. Emphasizing a commitment to not disrupt peak morning traffic, the FDOT confirmed that "there will be no closures during morning rush hours when construction begins."
Despite the construction scale, FDOT has not slated any noise walls for this phase of the project, a detail of interest to adjacent neighborhoods. This information was shared in an article by Action News Jax, giving locals a heads-up on what to expect as the construction progresses.
The final segment of the expressway is set to bridge the gap between St. Johns County and I-95, with ground-breaking targeted for September. Once completed, this infrastructure is anticipated to offer a much-needed bypass for Jacksonville, slated to improve regional traffic flow and significantly reduce congestion. "The final portion of the expressway, which will connect St. Johns County to I-95, is scheduled to break ground in September," News4Jax Content Gatherer Jacqueline Lee reported.
