Chaos erupted on the Southfield Freeway in Detroit when gunshots left a 33-year-old Taylor man's vehicle riddled with bullet holes in what authorities are calling a road rage incident. The violence unfolded at approximately 8:45 a.m. yesterday, according to ClickOnDetroit. Reports say that the shooting occurred along the northbound M-39 near Schoolcraft Road, prompting a swift law enforcement response.
Following the discovery of the victim's damaged car on the northbound service drive near 8 Mile, the driver was fortunate to emerge unscathed despite his car being struck multiple times. Detailing the event, "This appears to be another senseless incident where someone used a firearm to settle a driving dispute. We are very fortunate that no one was struck by one of these bullets," Michigan State Police First Lt. Mike Shaw stated, as per WWJ Newsradio.
Officials reported that thanks to community support and witness accounts, a suspect vehicle was later identified and pulled over. The individual associated with the incident was taken into custody for questioning and a handgun was recovered, which was confirmed by both CBS News Detroit and ClickOnDetroit sources.
The Michigan State Police has not yet released the suspect's name, as the community, which tips and evidence were provided, waits for further developments. Lt. Mike Shaw expressed gratitude for the public's assistance, "Thank you to the members of our community who witnessed this crime and provided information that led us to this suspect. We appreciate the partnership we have with the community that helps us build a Michigan where everyone feels safe and secure," according to CBS News Detroit. An ongoing comprehensive investigation seeks to address the full scope of the event, including search warrants and other evidence evaluations.
