A teenager has been apprehended by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) in connection to a series of robberies that occurred in September this year. The authorities made the announcement detailing the arrest of a 16-year-old male from Northeast, DC, who has since been charged with two counts of robbery and one count of attempted robbery.
According to an MPD press release, the first reported incident took place on Saturday, September 21, when a victim was allegedly assaulted by a group of suspects in the 1000 block of Irving Street Northwest. The assailants tried to forcibly take the victim's property but ultimately failed to secure it and quickly fled the scene. Less than a week later, two additional robberies were reported on September 25. In one occurrence, a victim was assaulted just after midnight by suspects who managed to take her belongings in the 700 block of Irving Street Northwest. The second event of the day was a snatch-and-grab type of theft at approximately 2:33 p.m. on the 3100 block of Sherman Avenue, Northwest, where suspects snatched a property from the victim as he attempted to call the police.
These cases were under rigorous investigation which led to the DC Superior Court issuing a custody order. The subsequent arrest of the unnamed juvenile took place on Monday. The teen now faces legal repercussions and accountability for his alleged involvement in these criminal acts.
MPD continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding these September crimes and urges anyone with information to promptly come forward. "The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $1,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a violent crime committed in the District of Columbia," as cited by the official MPD statement. The public can contribute any tips by contacting police at (202) 727-9099 or by sending a text to the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.
