It was a day marred by violence in Milwaukee as multiple shootings claimed the lives of two individuals and hospitalized three others on Monday. FOX6 News reported a fatal incident near 38th and Nash at approximately 1:35 p.m., where two unnamed victims—a 24-year-old and a 42-year-old—succumbed to gunshot wounds.
Amid the echoes of gunfire, Debra Gillispie, founder of Mothers Against Gun Violence, lives just two houses away from where the tragedy unfolded. In a statement obtained by FOX6 News, she expressed her empathy for the families, lamenting the irrevocable act of taking a life. "When you’re having some sort of altercations or differences, to kill someone is so final. You can’t take that back," said Gillispie. Additionally, her organization advocates for stricter gun laws and assists families affected by shootings.
The Milwaukee police, still seeking suspects in the shootings, were involved in a car chase following the incident. A vehicle related to the double homicide was spotted on I-94, leading to a pursuit and eventual crash near N. 16th Street after one suspect fled and another took control of the vehicle, as recounted by CBS 58. They reported that both 27-year-old men connected to the homicide were arrested.
While gun violence continues to ravage the city, another shooting took place around 4:30 p.m. at 51st and Meinecke, as reported by FOX6 News. Before sustaining gunshot injuries, a 27-year-old was shot and later sought medical treatment. Police are investigating the circumstances leading up to this incident, which they indicated may be domestic violence-related, continue to seek a known suspect.
