Two Philadelphia men have been apprehended in connection to a disturbance involving a disorderly crowd in Wilmington, following an over-capacity sports event. The Wilmington Police reported that the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. last Friday in the 400 block of Garasches Lane. Authorities had to intervene as a crowd became unruly after being denied entry into the fully-occupied venue, which led to altercations and vandalism.
As per a police statement, 37-year-old Johnnie English and 28-year-old Zamir McNeely-Coles of Philadelphia have been taken into custody. The scene escalated when individuals began throwing objects and forcibly attempting to gain entry. English is accused of causing significant property damage, including shattering a glass door. McNeely-Coles is alleged to have knocked a police officer to the ground. Despite the chaos, the officer was not harmed and no other injuries have been reported.
English is facing charges that include Criminal Mischief Over $1,000 and Resisting Arrest. Following these events, he was issued a criminal summons and subsequently released on his own recognizance. McNeely-Coles, on the other hand, has been charged with Offensive Touching, and following an arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 11, has also been released on his own recognizance. The police have not announced any additional arrests but the investigation is ongoing.
