Two women were rescued from a harrowing situation at the Black Diamond Ranch Golf Course in Citrus County. In a statement obtained by ABC Action News, the Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR) detailed their response to the extreme fall, which saw the women plummeting nearly 50 feet off a cliff on the Quarry Course near Hole 17 on Christmas Day. Despite the obstacles set by adverse weather conditions that prevented air support, the rescue crews were able to reach the scene by 10:05 a.m., with the incident ultimately left undiscovered until the following morning.
Recounting the operation, the CCFR shared how golf carts provided by the golf course maintenance personnel became instrumental in navigating the difficult terrain to access the quarry where the women were stranded. Then, executing a low-angle rescue operation, the first responders were able to make contact with the two women, who were found conscious and breathing. The details of the rescue operation were corroborated by the WFLA report.
After the successful rescue, the victims were taken to a local trauma hospital for further evaluation and treatment, according to the CCFR's Facebook post. Reflecting on the events, the rescue team expressed gratitude "We’re grateful for the quick thinking and teamwork of all involved. Wishing the patients a speedy recovery!"
