Wake County to Boost 'Lawyers in Your Library' Program Offering Free Legal Aid in RaleighSource: Google Street View

Wake County is set to upscale its Lawyers in Your Library program in 2025, offering free family law legal support bi-monthly. A collaborative effort between Wake County Public Libraries and the Wake County Legal Support Center, the initiative has seen significant uptake, aiding over 75 families this year alone with issues from custody battles to divorces.

As reported by Wake County official news, the final session for this year is slated for Saturday 4 from 9 a.m. to noon at North Regional Library in Raleigh. Residents are encouraged to book a spot online, yet walk-in consultations remain a viable option for the community.

The service, primarily tackling family law queries, equips clients with a 30-minute free discussion with volunteer lawyers. Participants receive counsel and advice, documents drafting aid, and procedural guidance – crucial support that many in the wake of various family tribulations might otherwise go without.

Anh LyJordan, director of the Wake County Legal Support Center, told Wake County news, the program's assistance demystifies the often daunting legal framework, fostering client confidence and competence in self-representation.

Since its inception in January 2023, the Legal Support Center has reached a milestone, assisting its 13,000th visitor. The Lawyers in Your Library program draws continued support from local law firms, with over 50 volunteers contributing more than 200 attorney hours, making possible the expanded outreach in Wake County.

"We’re proud of the tremendous success the Lawyers in Your Library program has seen in 2024 and are thrilled to continue this partnership with the Wake County Legal Support Center," shared Ann Burlingame Diab, deputy library director. The programs' embedding within library spaces exemplifies direct, community-centered legal resource provision, as per Wake County Government.
