In a show of solidarity and community engagement, the Wake Forest Police Department (WFPD) is teaming up with Heritage Station McDonald's to support athletes with intellectual disabilities. This collaboration aims to raise both awareness and funding for Special Olympics North Carolina (SONC), an organization dedicated to empowering individuals through sports. And it's not just a communal high-five—it's a fundraising event called "Safety Day," scheduled for January 15, 2025, according to the Wake Forest official website.
The initiative, taking the phrase "serving up support" quite literally, is simple yet impactful. Community members are invited to visit Heritage Station McDonald's at 1001 Forestville Road between 4 and 7 p.m. During those three hours, McDonald's will donate 25 percent of food and beverage sales directly to Special Olympics North Carolina (SONC). So, with every bite you take—and every side of fries you enjoy—you’ll be supporting athletes striving for gold.
The event will also feature an exciting showcase of public safety vehicles, as announced. Several local agencies will display their heavy-duty equipment, including police cars, fire trucks, EMS vehicles, and other specialized units. Attendees will have the chance to explore these essential vehicles up close, with opportunities to sit behind the wheel or even activate the sirens—an interactive experience that supports a worthy cause.
