As Wilmington residents prepare to ring in the new year, the city government reminds them of altered operations and services during the festive period. In a hiatus honoring New Year's Day, Wilmington's government offices will close their doors on Wednesday, January 1, 2025. Despite the closure, the City of Wilmington trash and recyclables collection schedule will persist without alteration.
On Monday, December 30, collection crews will pick up trash east of I-95. On Tuesday, December 31, they will collect on the west side. There will be no trash pickup on Wednesday, January 1, for New Year's Day. Collections will resume on Thursday and Friday, with recyclables being collected from east to west, as reported by the City of Wilmington.
In an announcement reflected by the City of Wilmington, Public Works Commissioner Kelly Williams notified citizens of the Christmas tree collection initiative set to span January. Residents are urged to strip their trees of adornments and station them curbside on their scheduled recycling day, taking care to leave artificial evergreens within the confines of their homes.
Mayor Mike Purzycki and Finance Director Brett Taylor remind everyone that free holiday parking in downtown and Riverfront areas will last until January 2, 2025. From midday to evening, you won't need to pay for metered parking. However, be mindful of tow-away zones and time limits to avoid any issues, as per the City of Wilmington.
Mayor Purzycki and Commissioner Williams have released the 2025 Recycling and Trash Collection Schedule. This easy-to-read schedule helps residents know when trash and recyclables will be collected, especially during holidays that may affect service. The digital schedule is available for download, so everyone can stay informed.
