A high-speed pursuit in Monroe County resulted in the detention of a 15-year-old driver last night. The Monroe County Sheriff's deputy initially attempted to stop the vehicle on East Third Street, and upon the driver's refusal to comply, a chase ensued that saw speeds exceeding 60 mph, well above the marked limit, as reported by The Detroit News.
Despite the intensity of the incident, no property damage or injuries were reported, the pursuit, which included a brief discontinuation and subsequent continuation by city officers, unfolded without further escalated dangers; deputies stated the chase began around 8 p.m. after the sheriff's deputy aimed to initiate a traffic stop in the city of Monroe but the young driver sped away leading to the involvement of Monroe police officers and another deputy as the pursuit transitioned from the city streets onto northbound Interstate 75.
CBS News Detroit indicated that after the chase, which looped from Frenchtown Township back into Monroe, the juvenile suspect eventually halted within a Navarre Street residence's driveway where authorities took him into custody and later lodged him at the Monroe County Youth Center on suspicions of fleeing and eluding.
Accompanying the driver was a 13-year-old passenger who, according to FOX 2 Detroit, was released to relatives post-pursuit.
