In response to harsh weather conditions, Allegheny County officials have announced a partial shutdown of county offices and courts for tomorrow. The aim is to minimize travel and exposure of non-essential employees to the severe elements. To maintain operations while ensuring safety, employees with the necessary technology will be required to work from home.
According to the official press release from Allegheny County, this decision affects all divisions of the Court of Common Pleas, Magisterial District Courts, and Pittsburgh Municipal Court, which will not open on this date. However, it's important to note that the Arraignment Court will remain operational, and any individual needing Emergency Protection from Abuse Orders can still procure them there.
Emergency services, seen as the backbone of public safety, will continue to operate without interruption. The announcement clarifies that only essential services will be actively maintained during severe weather.
Recreational facilities within county parks, notably those for skating and skiing, also suffer. They stayed closed on Wednesday, reflecting a conscientious effort to safeguard staff and patrons from the detrimental cold. However, patrons who pre-purchased tickets for activities will not be left out in the cold financially—they are eligible for refunds on skate lessons or ski lift tickets they've bought in advance.
