
A suspect was shot by an Austin Police Department SWAT officer during a standoff in Lockhart on Saturday after the individual, who had barricaded themselves inside a residence, appeared with a weapon. According to CBS Austin, the Lockhart Police Department responded to the incident at around 4:43 p.m. on the 900 block of 1st Street.
The standoff, which began earlier in the afternoon, escalated rapidly when the person exited the property bearing a firearm. SWAT officers were compelled to use force. As reported by KXAN, the APD's involvement initiated at 5:44 p.m., with the shooting happening shortly before 8:00 p.m.
The injured party was then airlifted to Ascension Seton Hays hospital in Kyle, but specifics regarding the extent of their injuries remain undisclosed. The area was closed down as police conducted their subsequent investigations, while the Lockhart Police Department posted a notification asking the public to avoid the vicinity for safety and procedural reasons.
No Lockhart officers were harmed in the event that unfolded, and authorities have stated there is no continuing threat to the public. APD Chief Lisa Davis was present at the scene but refrained from making a statement to the media, as indicated by the CBS Austin report, due to the incident occurring outside of Austin Police jurisdiction.
