
On a chilly December night in Austin, a life was cut tragically short. Leonard Akens, a black male born on September 21, 2005, suffered fatal stab wounds following an early morning altercation on 6th Street. The Austin Police Department's report disclosed that the incident occurred at approximately 2:35 a.m. on December 14. Akens was transported to a Hays County Hospital by a friend, where he was ultimately pronounced deceased.
The initial response by law enforcement began when the Kyle Police Department informed the APD of the stabbing. Shortly after, at 3:02 a.m., it was confirmed that Akens did not survive the injuries. The crime scene on the 100 block of 6th Street, a popular downtown area known for its late-night activity, was swarmed with Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists, intent on uncovering the events leading to the tragedy. According to an official statement, some individuals of interest have been identified through the ongoing investigation.
Authorities are making an appeal for public assistance. They urge anyone with information about the case to make use of the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program.
