A man is now fighting for his life following a distressing occurrence in Boulder yesterday. According to the City of Boulder, the police were called to a reported disturbance at the crossroads of Kalmia and 28th streets shortly after 3 p.m. yesterday. Upon their arrival, officers discovered both a vehicle engulfed in flames and a man bearing severe injuries.

The Boulder Fire-Rescue team, having arrived promptly, wasted no time in dousing the vehicle's flames, which they were able to extinguish quickly. A propane tank found within the vehicle prompted the Boulder Police Bomb Squad's activation, an action taken out of an abundance of precaution. Witnesses have shared with officials their initial observations, which suggest the man in the Jeep might have set the blaze within the vehicle and then himself, before exiting the vehicle, attempting to use a pair of scissors to stab a passerby, and finally, as if an afterthought, stabbing himself with the same pair of scissors.

Emergency services transported the man to a nearby hospital due to his life-threatening conditions. In a chaotic turn, as the events unfolded, the man's dog escaped injury from the flaming car, when concerned onlookers opened the car doors to rescue it. A Boulder resident managed to secure the canine, after which Boulder Police Animal Protection officers came to the scene and took the dog in to receive treatment for its sustained wounds.
