Drivers in Cumberland County can look forward to a smoother commute in the coming years. The N.C. Department of Transportation has unveiled plans to expand a portion of Camden Road, making way for a four-lane future, according to a recent announcement.
Currently a two-lane passage, the stretch from the Fayetteville Outer Loop interchange to Beswick Court will undergo significant renovation. The $20.2 million project aims to not only widen the road but also introduce a raised median, and reduced conflict intersections, these intersections have been shown to decrease the likelihood of serious accidents. A big win for drivers' safety.
In addition to the widened roadway, the project includes the construction of concrete curb and gutters, and drainage structures to improve the infrastructure's durability and overall effectiveness against the elements. Highland Paving Co., based out of Fayetteville, has been awarded the contract and will begin the transformation in the spring of 2025.
The roadwork is a long-term investment into the region's infrastructure; with an expected completion date of fall 2028.
