A Tesla Cybertruck exploded in the valet area of a hotel on Fashion Show Drive in Las Vegas on New Year's Day. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) responded to the scene after receiving a report of the explosion around 8:40 a.m. The explosion caused the vehicle to catch fire, and upon extinguishing the flames, responders found a deceased individual inside, who was the sole occupant at the time. The LVMPD, along with multiple law enforcement agencies, is investigating the incident, which also left seven people with minor injuries.
Further details revealed by the LVMPD indicated that the Cybertruck had been seen driving into the hotel valet just two minutes prior to the explosion. Detectives on the scene found gasoline canisters and large firework mortars present in the bed of the burnt-out shell of the truck. According to the LVMPD's recent update on the case, the truck had been rented in Colorado through Turo, and its movements were traced via Tesla's charging stations. Authorities initiated an evacuation of the hotel property as a precautionary measure, no suspect information will be released until confirmed.
As the investigation continues, updates are expected to be provided by the LVMPD. They have urged the public for cooperation and vigilance during this time and reassured that there is no known current threat to public safety. Community members have been encouraged to report any suspicious activities as standard protocols continue to monitor and protect the Las Vegas Strip and surrounding areas.
