A 30-year-old Clinton Township man, Dalvin Devonte Brooks, was arraigned on multiple criminal charges following a domestic violence incident that escalated into a standoff with police. Brooks is accused of assaulting the mother of his child and using their two-year-old son as a human shield while barricaded inside his apartment during the confrontation.

According to CBS News Detroit, Brooks faces seven counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and eight counts of felony firearm. He is also charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, fourth-degree child abuse, and domestic violence. Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido condemned Brooks' actions, stating, "The alleged actions of this individual are reprehensible. Such acts of violence are intolerable, and we will pursue justice to the fullest extent of the law to protect these victims and prevent further harm."

The standoff occurred on Sunday when Brooks allegedly assaulted the woman and pointed a gun at her and their son. Brooks then reportedly used his son as a human shield while pointing a gun at officers responding to the situation. The Detroit News reported that the child was unharmed during the standoff. The bond for Brooks was set at $500,000, and he has been charged as a habitual fourth offender.

The Macomb Daily reported that authorities charged Brooks after he surrendered to Clinton Township police. A probable cause conference is scheduled for Jan. 27, during which further case details may be discussed. As per court orders, if Brooks can post bond, he must wear a GPS tether and have no contact with the victims. These conditions indicate the gravity of the accusations levied against him.
