On Friday, Detroit Police announced the arrest of 19-year-old Demetrius Tiwan Shaw in connection with a mass shooting at a July block party, which left two dead and 19 injured, according to FOX 2 Detroit. Interim police chief Todd Bettison stated that Shaw's capture "should bring some assurance that the city of Detroit today is much safer," in an event still casting shadows despite the six months that have slipped by.

After authorities executed nearly a dozen search warrants across three cities, a total of 10 people were arrested, as reported by the Detroit Free Press. Shaw, having been previously identified as a suspect in a separate nonfatal shooting, is now charged with two counts of first-degree murder and 19 counts of assault with intent to murder. His connection to the mass shooting was unveiled, said Bettison, following a tip related to the May shooting in the same neighborhood.
