Smith faces an agreed sentence ranging between 28 to 50 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections, as well as an additional two years for each count related to firearms, detailed in a report by Audacy.
The events unfolded in the early hours of a Sunday morning when Smith, then 19, embarked to deliberately terrorize the residents of Detroit. The rampage, spanning approximately two hours, claimed the lives of Chayne Lee, Lari Brisco, and an unidentified woman, now referred to as Jane Doe. The sole survivor, John Palik, and his red-nose pitbull Kingston were both shot but ultimately managed to pull through. Palik, in an interview with FOX 2 Detroit, expressed a mixed sense of heartbreak for both the victims' families and the shooter, stressing the need for treatment over punishment alone, saying, “I think it’s good. Because the thing is if he would’ve been pronounced guilty, you can get parole and not get treatment. He needs treatment.”
