Downtown San Antonio River Set for Scheduled Maintenance, River Walk and Boat Services to Continue UninterruptedSource: Google Street View

San Antonio's downtown river will undergo a series of maintenance activities starting Monday, as reported by the City's official website. Starting this coming Monday and continuing through next Friday, a partial draining of the San Antonio River is set to take place to uphold its status as a prime feature for both locals and tourists alike.

The River Walk Maintenance Program, a collaborative project between the Center City Development and Operations Department, Public Works Department, and San Antonio River Authority, has attributed this action to essential upkeep, a task designed not for a grand-scale cleanup but rather, focused maintenance items, this year, they will not dredge up the river's contents for public display as they did in the past.

The main channel between Brooklyn Avenue and Houston Street will see a complete draining whereas a more limited draining will extend from Houston Street down to Nueva Street, a statement from the city's official news release specified. Parts of the Museum Reach, starting from Josephine to Brooklyn Avenue, will also undergo partial draining – notably, the section from I-35 to Josephine will retain minimal water levels, and the I-35 south stretch to Brooklyn is expected to hold a few feet of water throughout the week.

Despite the partial closures and the maintenance work being undertaken, the lively River Walk loop will remain unaffected, and the river's popular Go Rio boat service will keep its usual rhythm, offering continuity for businesses and leisure seekers, visitors can still enjoy the full River Walk experience without interruptions due to this scheduled routine maintenance, the City has confirmed that there will be no road closures disrupting traffic flow in downtown San Antonio.
