After over three decades of serving Latin-American flavors to the Lakewood community, El Tango Taqueria has permanently shut its doors. The restaurant, a staple of the local dining scene, has been a place where tacos, burritos, and friendships flourished since its inception in 1993. In a statement obtained by FOX8, the operators announced that the establishment at 14224 Madison Ave. has ceased food service.
Owner Antonio, who has dedicated over five decades to the restaurant industry, is ready to step away and fully embrace other avenues of personal expression. He aims to finally relax and "focus on painting and music," as reported by Cleveland19. While El Tango Taqueria has been closed to patrons since Sunday at 8 p.m., the community has been invited to participate in a going-out-of-business sale featuring kitchen equipment, dishes, and more.
The announcement, which also came through social media, echoes Antonio and his team's sentimentality for the community they've served. "El Tango has been a very special & unique place for so many years, creating life-long friendships," highlighted an emotional post on the restaurant's El Tango Grill Facebook page. The same post called upon everyone who had been part of the El Tango story to visit during the final sale and to share in the bittersweet goodbye. Additionally, a marketplace link with images of available items was provided for prospective buyers.
The closure of El Tango Taqueria marks the end of an era for local diners, who now must bid farewell to a beloved establishment. The goodbye sale, running through the weekend from 4-8 p.m. each day, serves as an opportunity to acquire a piece of the restaurant's history, pay one last visit, and honor the decades of memories created within its walls. The owner expressed his gratitude for the enduring support, stating, "Thanks so much for supporting El Tango over the years," as documented by All Things Food on Facebook.
