After more than two decades serving the City of Plano, Officer Michael Bogacki has entered retirement. The announcement came in a social media post by the Plano Texas Police Department with evident respect for the officer's commitment. Bogacki's departure on Wednesday brings to a close a career that spanned over 23 years, during which time he held his Master Peace Officer certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. Before his Plano tenure, Bogacki honed his law enforcement skills with the Virginia Beach Police Department and as a U.S. Army Ranger.
Following the initial two years in Virginia Beach, Bogacki became a part of the Plano Police Department in March 2001. His varied roles included stints as a patrol officer and a member of the Neighborhood Policing Unit. According to the department's post, Officer Bogacki quickly proved his mettle, joining the SWAT team shortly after completing his probation period and remaining an “on-call” stalwart throughout his service, a testament to his work ethic and commitment.
His contributions to the city and its safety net were manifold. As articulated in the department's note, Bogacki's expertise was not just showcased in high-pressure SWAT operations but also in his interactions with his crew and in nurturing the next generation of officers. The accolades he accumulated are a laundry list of law enforcement valor: Chiefs Unit Awards, an Excellence in Problem-Solving Award, and a Lifesaving Award among others. Most notably, Officer Bogacki was honored with a Purple Heart Award after sustaining an injury in the line of duty in December 2020, a poignant reminder of the dangers our peacekeepers face daily.
