
A hit-and-run incident claimed the life of a pedestrian in Cumberland County, North Carolina, on Monday evening. Sources from MyFOX8 confirmed the crash occurred around 7:35 p.m. along NC 24 near Downing Road and Interstate 95. A vehicle struck the pedestrian and fled the scene, as reported by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
The victim, later identified as Anthony Hobbs, a 50-year-old Fayetteville resident, was walking along the highway after his pickup truck had possibly run out of gas. Authorities found crosses on Hobbs' truck, making it a recognizable symbol to local area residents. According to a report by CBS17, the man had informed others that he was in need of fuel before leaving his vehicle near N.C. 24 and I-95.
Hobbs was not only known for his distinctive pickup truck but also for spreading messages of faith throughout the community. He was often referred to as the "Jesus loves you guy," as reported by WRAL News, which featured Hobbs' commitment to sharing his beliefs with signs and messages painted on his truck. The State Highway Patrol stated that Hobbs was struck in the roadway, which led to the tragic event.
Following the incident, the area was temporarily closed but has since reopened as the investigation into the hit-and-run continues.
