The Ferris State University Bulldogs are basking in the glow of a third NCAA Division II National Championship in four years, with a celebratory event slated for January 13 at the David L. Eisler Center. According to WZZM13, fans will have the chance to take photos with the championship trophies and meet the accomplished student-athletes from the dominant football and the nearly flawless volleyball team from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Four football standouts were recognized by D2Football.com's Elite 100 All-America Team, an accomplishment highlighting the depth of talent on Ferris State's roster. Having been hosted by numerous head coaches and scouting veteran Josh Buchanan, the list is considered a prestigious testament to collegiate football prowess, as reported by Ferris State Bulldogs’ official website. Earning a First Team nod was junior offensive guard Lawrence Hattar, junior quarterback Trinidad Chambliss received Second Team honors, while Sefa Saipaia and Justin Payoute both landed on the "Squad" roster, the equivalent of honorable mention.
Reflecting the winning spirit on and off the field, Bulldog players like Chambliss and offensive guard Hattar were not just athletic standouts but also excelled academically, embracing fields as diverse as Business Administration and Construction Management. Recognizing their dual commitments, Chambliss's hard work also saw him finish third in the Harlon Hill Trophy race, with Hattar pulling double duty as recognized by the American Football Coaches Association and D2Football, as noted by 9&10 News.
Guiding the Bulldogs to championship glory is none other than head coach Tony Annese, who was named National Coach of the Year by D2Football.com. While humbled by the honor, Annese emphasized the collective effort in a statement obtained by WZZM13, saying, "This is a truly extraordinary moment for our university." His sentiments echoed those of FSU President Bill Pink, who praised the community's passion and pride for their teams. Fresh off a 49-14 championship win over Valdosta State on December 21, 2024, the university's football and volleyball programs are poised to continue their streak of excellence, supported by their fans and achievements both on the field and in academia.
