Texans are welcoming two new faces to the State Commission on Judicial Conduct as Governor Greg Abbott announces his latest appointments. The commission, which holds the significant task of regulating the behaviors and actions of the state judiciary, has gained Yinon Weiss and April Aguirre—each bringing a unique set of skills and experiences to their roles.
Weiss has been designated for a term concluding on November 19, 2025, while Aguirre will serve a longer term through to November 19, 2029. Weiss, a resident of Austin, isn't a stranger to leadership. According to the announcement from the Governor's office, he's the CEO of Stress-Free Auto Care and notably, the former CEO and founder of CarDash and RallyPoint. Spanning beyond entrepreneurship, Weiss bears the marks of military honor—including a Bronze Star and Defense Meritorious Service Medal—reflecting a breadth of service in the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Army Special Forces, and the U.S. Army Reserves. His education includes a Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
April Aguirre comes to the commission with a background in nursing and advocacy for crime victims. A former member of the U.S. Air Force, where she received her nursing training, Aguirre carries an Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Houston – Downtown. Moreover, she's slated to embark on the additional challenge of law school later this year. Her work with Voice for Victims has been pivotal in providing support to those who've encountered the sharp edge of crime, positioning her as a committed figure in victim advocacy.
This commission plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity of Texas's judicial system, empowered to potentially recommend actions like retirement, censure, suspension, or removal of judges. With Weiss's leadership experience and Aguirre's victim-centric perspective, they both are expected to significantly contribute to upholding the state's principles of justice. Their inclusion on the panel is a clear nod to Governor Abbott's emphasis on diverse experiences, as evident from the press release.
