Following weeks of investigation, authorities have captured Robert Brad Williams, the man accused of a fatal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a Goldsboro mother. According to JoCoReport, the arrest was executed during a felony traffic stop on Interstate 95 near Dunn by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP).
The pursuit that ultimately led to apprehend Williams spanned multiple counties, as reported by ABC11. Troopers tracked the suspect from Robeson through Cumberland and finally to Harnett County, where Williams, a passenger in a Mercedes, was taken into custody around 3:41 p.m. yesterday.
Williams, a 49-year-old from Hickory, North Carolina, has been connected to the December 15 tragedy, where Korney Summer Atkins, a 24-year-old mother from Goldsboro, was killed. A wrong-way collision on the US 70 Clayton Bypass involving Williams' BMW and a Jeep SUV caused Atkins' death and left three other individuals grievously injured. JoCoReport notes that the Jeep's driver Sydney Ann Skelding, Michael Atkins, and a 4-year-old child were the injured parties.
Post-arrest, several items were confiscated from the Mercedes, including cash, multiple cell phones, and what the authorities described as a schedule 3 controlled substance. The driver of the Mercedes cooperated with the law enforcement and was subsequently released at the scene. Williams now faces multiple charges and is being held in the Johnston County Detention Center without bond, as per details from JoCoReport.
