Commuters faced delays yesterday during the evening rush hour as PATH service between Hoboken and the World Trade Center was disrupted due to necessary repairs. A broken rail was reported between Exchange Place and the World Trade Center, leading to a suspension of the Hoboken-WTC line, as Gothamist reported.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey directed Newark-to-WTC trains to operate on a 20-minute schedule, while Hoboken-to-33rd Street and Journal Square-to-33rd Street lines remained, operational. To assist travelers affected by the suspension, NJ Transit rail, and the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail began cross-honoring PATH tickets at designated stations, and NY Waterway ferries accepted PATH tickets at Hoboken, Paulus Hook, and Brookfield Place.
As reported by ABC7NY, the service interruptions were temporary, with PATH trains resuming normal operations between Hoboken and the World Trade Center later on Thursday. After resolving the track issue, cross-honoring arrangements ended, and riders were advised to check for the latest updates online.
During the disruption, the Port Authority Police Department was prepared to manage crowds at the World Trade Center by intermittently disabling turnstiles to ensure passenger safety. Ahead of the extended Hoboken PATH station closure scheduled for February the, authority has also announced plans to increase ferry services during peak hours and provide free shuttle buses to Newport and Exchange Place PATH stations in Jersey City.
