Philadelphia's beloved Termini Brothers Bakery, which has been serving the community since 1921, was targeted by a thief last Friday, just before 6 a.m., as confirmed in an interview with Heather Cram, the bakery's senior director of business development. NBC10 reported that the suspect was captured on camera entering the 1500 block of Packer Avenue location after breaking the front door.
The suspect's actions were caught on surveillance, repeatedly trying to force the door open after initially walking away and coming back to try again, and upon entry, went through the cash registers and displaced several items, according to the video shared with media outlets. The bakery, which expanded beyond its original South Philly store to include four additional locations, didn't just have cash stolen—bags of change were also reported missing, but according to a statement obtained by 6abc, their Eagles cupcakes and cannoli remained untouched.
Termini Brothers, a staple in the area with a rich family heritage of father-to-son operation through three generations, resumed operations shortly after the incident; it was business as usual by the time weekend customers arrived for treats. The burglary has prompted the establishment, experiencing its first break-in at this location, to consider bolstering security, "They broke in shortly before 6:00 a.m.," "We didn't discover it until our staff showed up at 9 a.m. to open the store," Cram detailed in a statement obtained by 6abc.
Philadelphia police are actively investigating the break-in and urge anyone with information to call the South Detectives at 215-686-3013. Termini Brothers extended their gratitude for the quick response of the local community and the police department, "A huge thank you to the Philadelphia Police Department, all of our caring neighbors for stopping in to make sure we are okay, and our amazing staff for jumping into action and getting the bakery back in shape for service," the bakery expressed in an update on Friday in a statement obtained by CBS News Philadelphia.
