The City of Jacksonville has recently unveiled a pioneering program aimed at fostering job opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental differences. Dubbed the Professional Animal Workers Certificate (PAWS), this initiative is a collaboration between the City, The Arc Jacksonville, and Florida State College at Jacksonville, providing targeted vocational training in animal care.
As supported by the city's governmental social media post, PAWS is designed not only to impart education and job experience but also to issue industry certifications. Participants will be working alongside the city's Animal Care & Protective Services team, thereby gaining hands-on knowledge and skills in the field. In what the City of Jacksonville announces as a "first-of-its-kind program," those interested are encouraged to seek further details and apply through The Arc Jacksonville's Career Campus page.
At the program's launch, Mayor Donna Deegan expressed considerable enthusiasm for the PAWS initiative, highlighting its significance within the local workforce development landscape. "This is the kind of vital vocational training that will really make a difference in our city’s workforce development efforts," said Mayor Deegan. "Programs like this are essential to building a stronger, more vibrant community and today marks an important milestone in that effort," the City of Jacksonville, Florida - Government social media post relayed.
For those who knows someone with intellectual and developmental differences and might be suitable for a career in animal care, The Arc Jacksonville's Career Campus is a prime starting point.
