The Las Vegas Raiders are gearing up to finalize a deal that will land John Spytek in the hot seat as their new general manager. The team aims to officially set Spytek at the helm after recently parting ways with Tom Telesco, as per NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

Spytek, a 44-year-old NFL executive with an extensive résumé, is expected to quickly start looking for a new head coach to lead the Raiders through their next chapter. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Raiders have already interviewed several candidates for the position, but must decisively narrow down their search following the recent appointments of Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn with the Chicago Bears and New York Jets, respectively.

The franchise, as reported by Rapoport, has eyed Spytek as the person to run their ship, banking on his well-regarded tenure as Jason Licht's right-hand man in Tampa. Spytek's connections include an illustrious college link-up with Raiders minority owner Tom Brady at Michigan, and they both took home a Super Bowl ring while with the Buccaneers.

With a challenge ahead, Spytek will inherit a capable roster featuring All-Pro tight end Brock Bowers but will also have to immediately address needs at both quarterback and running back. Raiders owner Mark Davis has expressed anticipation for Brady to assist in the quarterback selection process. Spytek must also navigate through free agency, with several starters speculated to soon hit the market. The Raiders, replete with the No. 6 draft pick and more than $108 million in projected salary cap space, are well-positioned to make significant moves under Spytek's guidance.

Apart from the on-field squad, Spytek brings a comprehensive scouting and player personnel background, which includes stints with the Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns, and Denver Broncos, before settling with the Buccaneers in 2016, as traced by Schefter. His experience with notable executives and coaches like John Elway, Andy Reid, and Gary Kubiak stands to serve the Raiders well in the relentless NFL environment.
