The City of Kalamazoo is reaching out to its residents for their insights on the renovation of Princeton Park on the Northside. A public meeting set for January 14 offers a platform where the city hopes to gather community opinions on potential design options, including features such as "shade structures, benches, and natural play equipment." WOODTV reports that the designs up for discussion are already based on recommendations from a previous parks master planning initiative.
In-person feedback can be provided between 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Mayors’ Riverfront Park Community Room, as declared in a statement from the city relayed by WWMT. For those unable to attend, the city is accepting comments via email at [email protected] until the date of the meeting. The community's feedback is critical, as it will directly inform the development of a final concept for the park's renovation.
According to the city's release, the meeting format will be open-house style, allowing attendees to come and go freely, making the session accessible for those with tight schedules. With the prospect of improved recreational spaces, Kalamazoo officials are pushing for a strong turnout to ensure a diverse range of perspectives are heard. The intended outcome is to create a space that best reflects the desires and necessities of the community it will serve.
The renovation of Princeton Park is set to break ground this coming spring. The design and feedback collection phase is slated to continue over the next several months. "Input from this meeting will be used to develop a final concept for the park," as mentioned on the Kzoo Parks website. With construction expected to commence in Spring 2025, the timeline for public input is indeed brief.
