A 53-year-old Kalamazoo man has been charged with the murder of 68-year-old Minette Suzanne Weaver, whose body was discovered in her apartment late last year. Marvin Delaney Humphrey was arrested on Wednesday and formally charged with open murder the following day, as reported by FOX 17. Authorities set Humphrey's bond at $500,000 cash/surety.
According to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS), officers initially responded to a medical call on November 25, 2024, at an apartment on the 1000 block of Douglas Avenue. Upon arrival, they found Weaver deceased. Her death was later ruled a homicide on January 2, leading detectives to follow up on investigative leads quickly. Captain Danielle Guilds said in a statement obtained by WOODTV, "We understand that nothing can take away the pain of losing a loved one, but we hope this arrest brings some measure of relief to Ms. Weaver’s family and the community."
Humphrey's arrest resulted from collaborative efforts between the KDPS and the U.S. Marshals Service. The details surrounding Weaver's death were initially unclear, prompting a criminal investigation by detectives and forensic investigators. The Kalamazoo County Medical Examiner's Office eventually determined homicide as the cause of her death.
Humphrey is expected to return to court for a probable cause hearing on February 12, with a preliminary examination scheduled for February 19, according to court documents cited by WWMT.
