A Kalamazoo man, Michael Warren Smith Jr., age 38, has been sentenced to a federal prison term of 27 years for charges of drug trafficking that involved substantial amounts of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine. The sentence was handed down earlier this week, as reported by The Detroit News.
Smith had earlier pleaded guilty to intentions to distribute over 500 grams of methamphetamine and 400 grams of fentanyl, materializing his extensive involvement in illegal drug activities. His residence and apartment were searched on October 11, 2023, where law enforcement officials discovered large quantities of drugs, including over five pounds of methamphetamine assessed at 99 percent purity, as described in the article by CBS Detroit.
The sentencing statement highlights the severity of the criminal operation, with the authorities seizing more than 470 grams of cocaine and five loaded firearms from Smith's properties.
