In response to plummeting temperatures and the increased need for safe, warm refuge, the Lewisville Police Department has disseminated information regarding two public warming centers available to those in need. The city's efforts to provide shelter during this critical time underscore a community's commitment to protect its most vulnerable members from the harsh winter weather.
The first warming center, available at the Lewisville Public Library located at 1197 W. Main St., keeps its doors open from Monday to Thursday between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m., then on Friday and Saturday the hours shift slightly from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the library nevertheless remains closed on Sundays, offering a temporary haven for many during the bulk of the week. According to the recent social media announcement made by the Lewisville Police Department, this particular arrangement began yesterday and it will extend through the week.
The second warm space announced is The Salvation Army Lewisville Center, located at 880 Fox Avenue, its doors open from 6 p.m. till 9 a.m.; the initiative commenced yesterday and is expected to run through to Friday, January 10. Community members seeking shelter after the library's closing hours can find respite from the evening chill through to the following morning at this location. Addressing the urgency of the need for such services, these places offer a necessary, albeit temporary, respite from the relentless cold that grips the city.
