Long Beach is gearing up for its annual commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with the 2025 parade and celebration, set for this Saturday. The event opens at 10 a.m. with a parade along Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, leading into an afternoon filled with arts and entertainment at the local park, according to the City of Long Beach's announcement.
The parade features a mix of influential locals as grand marshals, such as community advocate Dale E. Clinton and philanthropists Samuel “Skip” and Beth Keesal. Long Beach Poly High School's track teams and the Wilson High School Girls' Track and Field team, both of whom have had significant achievements in the past year, will also help lead the festivities, as detailed by the City of Long Beach. Each of these participants have stories deeply rooted in the service and empowerment that Dr. King championed, reflecting Long Beach's commitment to a diverse and inclusive community celebration.
Once the parade concludes, Martin Luther King Jr. Park will transform into a hub of activity from noon until 5 p.m. Attendees will be treated to performances by local artists like bassist AJ Luke and Grammy-nominated singer Ms. Anita Wilson, with sounds curated by DJ Infinite E., keeping the crowd energized throughout the day, as per the City of Long Beach. The event, presented by the Office of Sixth District Councilwoman Dr. Suely Saro, promises a blend of music, dance, and community spirit, inviting folks of all ages to engage and enjoy.
