A Longmont man is in custody facing multiple charges of child sexual exploitation after an investigation tracked illicit material back to his residence. Boulder County officials have confirmed the arrest of 39-year-old Darek William Marino, implicating him in the case that involves possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

According to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, the case against Marino began when a Florida law enforcement officer, during a Peer-to-Peer investigation, identified CSAM files being shared from the Boulder County region. The case widened to include a collaborative effort with the Colorado Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, which worked with the Boulder County Digital Forensics Lab to trace the digital trail back to Marino.

An official statement from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office detailed the execution of a search warrant at Marino’s residence on Terry Street. Law enforcement officers and detectives seized over a dozen electronic devices from his home. Subsequent forensic analysis uncovered nearly 400 files of CSAM on two of the devices, with content predominantly featuring female children under 12 years old.

After establishing probable cause, authorities arrested Marino and booked him into the Boulder County Jail with a $100,000 bond. He faces one count of violating C.R.S. §18-6-403(3)(b.5), described as Sexual exploitation of a child possession of a video, a Class 4 Extraordinary Risk Felony, and four counts of violating C.R.S. §18-6-403(3)(b.5), of Sexual exploitation of a child possession of an image, which is classified as a Class 5 Extraordinary Risk Felony.

Multiple agencies participated in the investigation and arrest, including the Boulder County Digital Forensics Lab, the Longmont Department of Public Safety, the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, the Boulder County District Attorney's Office, the Boulder Police Department, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Detectives from the Thornton Police Department ICAC unit also contributed, highlighting a regional effort to combat child exploitation and share effective investigative practices.
