In a startling act of violence that disrupted the quiet of a Highlands neighborhood, a man and woman were injured in a drive-by shooting on Wednesday afternoon. According to a report published by the Harris County Sheriff's Office, bullets flew in the 500 block of West Houston at around 4:20 p.m., hitting an adult male seated in his car and a female standing at the front doorway of the nearby residence. Both victims required immediate medical evacuation to a local hospital via Life Flight, highlighting the severity of the situation.
Despite the chaos unleashed, there is a sliver of relief to find that two children, a 5-year-old and a 7-year-old, who were inside the home at the time, escaped unscathed physically. The day's violence began earlier when arsonists targeted a parked vehicle in front of the house, a fact reported by the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office, which responded to the ensuing fire.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office Violent Crimes Division is now actively investigating the shooting incident. Currently, detectives are scouring the neighborhood, seeking any surveillance footage that might have been captured, and are thoroughly collecting evidence that could shed light on those responsible for the violence.
The Sheriff's Office has issued a call to action for the community, urging anyone who may have potentially critical information to come forward. Individuals with knowledge concerning the incident are encouraged to contact the Harris County Sheriff's Office at 713-221-6000 or to remain anonymous, to reach out to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
