An incident unfolded on the night of November 5, 2024, when a man named Michael Blount was accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend, slashing her with a razor blade, and then shoving her onto the subway tracks in front of her teenage daughters. According to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., the indictment includes charges of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree among other counts.
The incident reportedly took place at a Harlem deli where Blount initially tried to speak with his ex-girlfriend, who refrained from engaging and left with her daughters. Blount followed them, returned to the deli to purchase a razor blade, and subsequently assaulted the woman at an A-train station. "Despite what must have been a terrifying attack, one of her daughters was able to pull her mother from the tracks, likely saving her life," District Attorney Bragg explained. A bystander’s quick thinking enabled them to get to the hospital promptly after having called a car for the family.
Following the attack, Blount is said to have evaded capture for weeks while he continually harassed his victim. He was eventually detained by the authorities last Saturday. The victim's confrontation with Blount was significant in avoiding more grievous harm, despite sustaining multiple slashes that later required plastic surgery.
The prosecution of this case is being spearheaded by Assistant D.A. Charlotte Armour of the Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Bureau. She works under the guidance of other prominent figures in the bureau, including Assistant D.A.s Maxine Rosenthal, Bethany Spiro, and Vanessa Puzio, as well as Executive Assistant D.A. Justin McNabney. Analyst Eva Nikitovic is also assisting with the case, as are Rokel Jefferson (Director of Advocates) and Beverly Gilchrist (Chief of the Survivor Services Bureau).
In the face of this brutal crime, the Manhattan DA's office has reiterated their dedication to addressing intimate partner violence and extends a helping hand to survivors and their families, urging anyone in need of support to contact them directly. Amidst the district attorney's office’s efforts to prosecute Blount, gratitude was extended to the NYPD, especially to members of the Manhattan Transit Crime Squad and the Manhattan Warrant Squad, for their roles in the investigation and apprehension of the suspect.
