A 64-year-old man from Lawton, Michigan, was found wandering in the cold after his car crashed in Van Buren County on Friday. Deputies were called around 8:30 p.m. to the 74000 block of 22nd Street in Porter Township, where they found the crashed vehicle, which had hit a tree and was covered by snow, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office

Deputies followed fresh footprints to find a man lying unresponsive near a swamp, his clothes wet and freezing. "His clothing was wet and starting to freeze and he advised that he could not feel his legs," the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office said. The man had crashed his car two hours earlier and, exhausted and disoriented, had wandered off before collapsing. Deputies revived him, though he showed signs of hypothermia, as reported by FOX 17 reported.

A man was rescued from a swamp after being found in freezing conditions with snow and high winds. The Sheriff's office stated, "If the Deputies had not located the footprints and followed them it is likely that the subject would have succumbed to hypothermia in the edge of the swamp." Following the rescue, the Van Buren County Sheriff reminded the public to keep emergency supplies in their vehicles during winter, such as blankets, extra clothing, water, food, and a flashlight, as stated by the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office
