The scale of California's wildfires has summoned a cadre of volunteers from the Michigan Region of the American Red Cross to Southern California. Amidst one of the most severe wildfire seasons in recent memory, eight Michigan volunteers are providing aid both on the ground and virtually.
CBS News Detroit reported that four volunteers are actively involved with emergency shelters and distributing equipment, in addition to aiding efforts to help families separated by the flames reunite. Despite being personally affected by the wildfires, the Red Cross states that more than 300 disaster workers are assisting in the area. Four Michigan volunteers render reunification support remotely from their home state.
"We are grateful to our Michigan volunteers who will be supporting our team members and helping the people of southern California," Latoya "Toy" Rooks, regional disaster officer of the Red Cross Michigan Region, stated, as per CBS News Detroit. This sentiment mirrors the determination to maintain assistance efforts, as evidenced by the commitment to "commit additional resources should the need arise," as Rooks asserted in statements provided by WILX News.
The Red Cross has requested financial donations to facilitate ongoing relief operations. WOODTV detailed how to pledge support for wildfire relief: Visit redcross.org, call 1.800 RED.CROSS (733.2767), or text CAWILDFIRES to 90999.
