Residents in Milwaukee and surrounding areas brace for another bone-chilling day, with the National Weather Service issuing a Hazardous Weather Outlook early this morning. The wind chill values are expected to plummet to negative teens and possibly negative 20 degrees in certain parts of central Wisconsin, particularly away from the moderating effects of Lake Michigan, as reported by the National Weather Service.
According to the National Weather Service, the deep freeze grips the region with today's highs peaking at a mere 16 degrees, while wind chill values oscillate between a frigid -5 and zero. The west wind, driving these temperatures lower will persist around 15 mph, with gusts that could reach up to 30 mph. The outlook extends into the night with lows around 2 degrees, and wind chill values dropping between a numbing -5 and -15. While the cold snap is fierce, spotter activation for emergency services will not be needed, the report assures.
This week, it may look sunny on Tuesday and Wednesday, but it will still feel very cold. Tuesday morning, wind chills could drop to the negative teens. Wednesday will be a bit warmer with a high around 23°F, but strong west winds will still make it feel chilly.
The latter part of the week sees a slight and welcome shift, temperatures ascend to a high near 37 degrees by Thursday, escalating to near 40 on Friday. But the reprieve is brief, a chance of rain before midnight ushers in the potential return of snow by Friday night. "Widespread wind chill values in the negative teens linger into Tuesday morning, with wind chills as low as negative 20 degrees in portions of central Wisconsin," the National Weather Service statement highlighted, marking a persistent stretch of harsh winter conditions.
With the weekend on the horizon, residents might be eager for outdoor pursuits. However, the fickle skies are a reminder that winter still firmly holds the region in its grasp — offering only a partly sunny Saturday with a high near 29 and dropping into a low around 9 by night. Sunday's high hovers around 15 degrees, with partial sunshine doing little to dispel the entrenched chill. The National Weather Service advises the public to stay tuned for further updates as conditions evolve.
