Milwaukee Public Schools employee and basketball coach Keelyn Tyler has been charged with third-degree sexual assault and child enticement in relation to an incident that allegedly took place in October 2023. According to a FOX6 News report, the 38-year-old is accused of sexually assaulting a child he was mentoring.
As outlined in the criminal complaint, the child was picked up daily from school by Tyler, and during one of these occasions, was taken to a warehouse owned by Tyler in New Berlin. In the empty warehouse, which at the time housed three televisions and multiple video game consoles as reported by WISN 12 News, is where the alleged assault occurred. During an episode of cleaning the space, walking into the bathroom, Tyler is accused of locking the boy inside and committing the assault.
The complaint also states that following the incident, Tyler purportedly challenged the boy's likelihood of being believed, asking, “Do you think anyone will believe you?”, as detailed by WISN 12 News. The accusation did not become public until the child confided in his sister, which led to the official notification to the New Berlin Police Department at the end of July 2024.
Coming to light after the child's mother noticed bruises on her son's back and his subsequent aversion to Tyler, the allegations have disturbed the community, particularly because of Tyler's role in mentoring children. Although Tyler has denied all allegations of inappropriate conduct, he has been removed from his coaching position at Alexander Hamilton High School and a nonprofit basketball organization Running Rebels, as confirmed by reporting from WISN 12 News.
According to WTMJ, Tyler is currently out on a $5,000 bond. Looking forward if convicted of the charges, he faces up to 35 years in prison along with $125,000 in fines. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 19. The Milwaukee Public Schools district has withheld comment on the situation involving Tyler pending legal proceedings.
