Over ninety years after the tragic death of Officer William Kammerling, the Milwaukee Police Department honored his memory. The Milwaukee Police Department Facebook post, issued on Tuesday, the anniversary of his death, commemorated his service and reminded the public of the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers. "The Milwaukee Police Department never forgets those members who paid the ultimate price in service to the community. Today we honor fallen brother William Kammerling who died in the line of duty in 1922," the post read.

Officer Kammerling died on January 28, 1922, at the age of 27 due to a fatal accident while on duty. He was involved in a collision on Grand Avenue (now Wisconsin Avenue) while riding his motorcycle. Kammerling was thrown from his motorcycle and sustained injuries that led to his death. He had served as a police officer for five years and left behind a wife and two children.

The Milwaukee Police Department's Facebook post described the accident, where Kammerling's motorcycle collided with a postal messenger’s motorcycle. One of the riders attempted to pass a car, causing the crash. Kammerling suffered a fractured skull and broken neck, while the other rider was unharmed. Kammerling never regained consciousness and passed away two days later from his injuries.
