Milwaukee police have taken a 66-year-old woman into custody in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that left a local man dead. The incident, which has been described as intentional, occurred on Tuesday near the intersection of 14th Street and North Avenue, according to FOX6 Now. The victim has been identified as 41-year-old Mamadou Bamba.
Investigators reported that Bamba had been involved in an argument with the woman, who allegedly struck him with her vehicle before fleeing the scene. Following the discovery of the incident, police arrested the suspect on Thursday, Jan. 15. TMJ4's reporting notes that the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office is currently reviewing the case for criminal charges.
The sudden loss has left Bamba's family reeling, with Musa Konneh, a cousin, speaking on behalf of the relatives. "It’s tough because it was a surprise, you know, it was not something that we expected," Konneh told FOX6. The tragedy has plunged Bamba's mother, described as a single mother, into total shock over the death of her son.
Neighbors and loved ones are also struggling to come to terms with the incident. One resident described hearing a "big boom" at the time of the hit-and-run, a noise that may have corresponded to the suspect's vehicle striking a transformer, leading to a power outage for a local business, CBS 58 reported. Meanwhile, Amanda, mother of Bamba's child, honored his memory at the scene: "He was always so happy, just a kind-hearted person. Very friendly," she shared with CBS 58. "I don't know why anybody would want to do this."
The Milwaukee Police Department continues to further their investigation and asks anyone with information to contact them directly or anonymously through Crime Stoppers. The case, as it unfolds, may yet yield more insights into the circumstances that led to the heartrending event that irrevocably altered lives in the Milwaukee community.
