Montgomery County is putting the spotlight on its aging population with a virtual event aimed at educating residents about a wealth of resources available for seniors. According to a press release from Montgomery County, the Commission on Aging (COA) will be hosting this free event next Thursday from 2–3 p.m. The online gathering seeks to connect older adults to services designed to promote active, healthy, and independent living within the community.
The event lineup will delve into various county-offered programs spanning wellness and recreation, caregiving support, meals, transportation, and options for continued learning and employment. Registrants have the chance to interact directly with members of the COA, voice their interests, and discuss concerns. "We are committed to supporting older adults in Montgomery County by providing the resources they need to remain active, connected, and independent," Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich stated in the Montgomery County's press release. Elrich emphasized the value of the community event as a platform for learning and engagement.
Though there's no cost to attend, those interested are reminded that they must register to participate. A Zoom link will be dispatched to participants a few days before the virtual event takes place.
Far beyond just a single event, the COA plays a crucial role in advising both local government and health departments on issues and opportunities facing seniors. The COA is also pivotal in identifying areas where advocacy efforts can positively impact those wishing to age in place and maintain active engagement in their communities. Interested parties can find out more by reaching out to Montgomery County’s Aging and Disability Resource Unit (ADRU) at 240-777-3000, which operates under the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), providing assistance in connecting older adults and their families with necessary resources.
